Battle River School Division

​About Our Division
Battle River School Division is located in rural Alberta and serves the educational needs of 5400 students in many different communities. These communities include: Tofield, Viking, Hay Lakes, Bashaw, Sedgewick, Bawlf, Daysland, Killam, Forestburg and Camrose.
The Division consists of many educational programs including the following:
  • 18 Traditional Schools,
  • 3 schools that offer French Immersion (dual track),
  • 10 Colony Schools,
  • At Home/Online Learning,
  • Two Outreach Schools, and
  • A Summer School.

About Our Community
The Division Office of Battle River School Division is located about an hour’s drive south of Edmonton, in Camrose, Alberta.  Camrose is a scenic city surrounded by some of the richest farmland in the prairies.  With a population of more than 18,000, the city serves the educational, recreational, health, safety and consumer needs of its residents. This friendly community is also home to many well-known sports teams and entertainment events.

Mentorship
Battle River School Division subscribes to a holistic approach to teacher mentorship, where new members are surrounded with a community of supports including:
  • School Administrator(s),
  • in-school mentor (providing at-the-elbow assistance), 
  • Subject /grade specialist mentor (providing specific subject/grade support),
  • Learning Facilitator Coach and
  • Learning Department personnel
  • English Language Learner Consultant
 
Professional Development
In Battle River School Division, we believe the duty of professional development resides with the school division, the school, and the individual. Ongoing professional learning is crucial to meeting the learning needs of our students:
  • to support deeper understanding of new content knowledge and skills and refine current practices 
  • to incorporate research-based strategies into our work 
  • to gain expertise in collaborative learning and facilitation processes 
  • to build the leadership capacity of all staff 
  • to address the academic, character and relationship needs of students related to the BRSD Pyramid of Success and in direct support of BRSD’s Goals
